APRIL CHAPTER LEADER OF THE MONTH
It is my pleasure to announce the launch of a new ACT! for America feature entitled “Chapter Leader of the Month” that highlights the activities of our various chapters operating from all over the U.S. and the world! We regularly receive updates from our hard working chapter leaders and will be sharing with you “the inside scoop” on their many successes.
You may not be aware of what our 270 chapters accomplish or how essential strong chapters are to our success in confronting radical Islam. Did you realize we have nearly 3 times the number of chapters we had a year ago? That’s how fast our ACT! for America chapter network is exploding with growth!
We grow large by growing small. It is the fundamental integrity and strength of each committed chapter leader (plus his or her dedicated volunteers) that will collectively empower ACT! for America’s ability to roll back the threat of radical Islam and secure your children’s security for decades to come.
It’s my hope that many of you will realize that our dedicated chapter leaders are really not “Wonder Woman” or “Superman.” They are people just like you and I who are concerned about our nation’s future security. From what I’ve heard from our chapter leaders, many had self doubts about their ability to lead – but they also tell me that as they follow this process we’ve carefully designed for chapter development, their confidence in their ability to lead a vibrant chapter grows with every passing month!
I’d like to quote from the chapter leader we’re profiling this month who shared the following with me:
“When we first formed the chapter, I told the members that I've never been involved in activist activities before and really didn't know what the hell I was doing, but intended to learn as I went along, try not to make too many mistakes, learn from those I do make, and be responsive to their wishes. I've received much support from the chapter members and I sense that they're not too upset with me as their leader. I've also clearly stated that if they would prefer a different leader, I would gladly relinquish the post and would not feel insulted. I said I felt someone should step forward and get a chapter started, ergo my involvement.”
This is exactly the kind of humility and leadership we are looking for! I get so fired up when I think about the effort and sacrifice our chapter leaders are making!
Therefore, it is my pleasure to announce that our April 2009 Chapter Leader of the Month Award is in fact, a Co-Chapter Leaders of the Month team:
Bruce and Jennifer, co-chapter leaders of our Mission Viejo Chapter in Orange County, California!
Jennifer and Bruce are both highly dedicated volunteers who have helped create a phenomenal chapter! They have truly found the balance between addressing local concerns and helping with our nationwide efforts as well. They have concentrated their first priority on growing the number of members in their chapter. Therefore, they will be in the position to be taking on larger and larger projects in a meaningful way as they grow.
Jennifer is overseeing our California Elected Official Research Project and is coordinating the volunteers helping her gather this vital information.
Bruce (who I quoted above), started the chapter and has been a genuine example of leadership to the entire ACT! for America organization.
Here is just a sampling of the Mission Viejo Chapter’s activities and accomplishments because space simply doesn’t allow a full report:
- They have over 45 active participants in their monthly meetings!
- They have close to 120 members on their email list.
- Perhaps the best and most visible project they’ve completed is the 22-page report entitled “Islam in America’s Classrooms – History or Propaganda?” Special hat tip to Al and Steve for producing this project!! As a consequence of this report, there is a real possibility that a nationwide textbook clearinghouse system will be implemented if the funding can be secured.
- They have another active committee to monitor the Muslim Student Union at UC Irvine. Great news: The MSU recently lost its charter as an officially sanctioned student group!
- They consistently respond to ACT! for America’s national action alerts. These alerts are consistently giving us larger and larger victories from our local communities to the U.S. Congress!
Check out Mission Viejo’s website, http://www.actforamerica92691.org It is just amazing! Bruce, Jennifer and their dedicated team of volunteers are exactly what we had in mind when we instituted the chapter concept.
In short, Jennifer and Bruce’s consistent efforts can serve as an example that when we all do a little, together we accomplish a lot!
I look forward to announcing next month’s award! I can tell you the competition is stiff. There are so many deserving of mention. Stay tuned…..!
Consider starting or helping a chapter today. Realize that besides a small monthly Patriot Partner pledge of at least $20 to ACT! for America, this is the single most important thing you can do to stop radical Islam cold. Tens of thousands of people, all accomplishing the same objectives, will get this job done! Don’t risk sitting this out! You are needed!
