Clarion Challenges CAIR to Stop Obsession Smear Campaign
Why is CAIR Protecting Radical Islam?

NEW YORK, Oct 28, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The Clarion Fund, a non-profit organization committed to educating the American people about national security issues, called on the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) to end its smear campaign against the documentary Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West.

"CAIR, an organization that refuses to denounce Hamas and Hezbollah, cannot refute the accuracy of Obsession so it has decided to attack The Clarion Fund in hopes of discrediting the film," said Raphael Shore, the producer of Obsession and the founder of The Clarion Fund. To coincide with the anniversary of 9/11, The Clarion Fund distributed 28 million DVDs of Obsession as an advertising insert in 70 papers across the country. In response, CAIR has organized a smear campaign to attack Obsession in the media as hate speech. This defamatory claim is designed to distract the public from examining the threat of radical Islam.

"We want the American people to see our film and learn from it. This is an award-winning film that features radical Islamists speaking in their own words."

Shore said. When the documentary was originally released in 2006 it aired several times as a special one-hour program on Fox News and received favorable coverage on CNN. It has also been screened on Capitol Hill, law enforcement agencies and on hundreds of college campuses.

CAIR also filed unsubstantiated complaints with the FEC and IRS that assert The Clarion Fund has violated electioneering prohibitions for non- profit organizations.

This is a meritless claim to shut down public debate. Obsession and its marketing materials make no mention of Senator McCain and Senator Obama or their positions on terrorism. The film was distributed at time when the American people are most attuned to public policy issues and in places where the media's attention is fixated.

"The vast majority of Muslims are peaceful, as Obsession clearly states, but extremists are using terrorism to try to destroy Western values. Radical Islamists have hijacked Islam to incite hatred, violence, human rights abuses, and the murder of innocent people. CAIR should be leading the charge against radical Islam because it threatens moderate Muslims as much it does Christians and Jews," Shore said.

CAIR was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in US v. Holy Land Foundation, a terrorism financing trial. In another trial, the US Justice Department declared: "Moreover, from its founding by Muslim Brotherhood leaders, CAIR conspired with other affiliates of the Muslim Brotherhood to support terrorists." CAIR has a track record of using litigation and disinformation to intimidate critics of radical Islam.

"If CAIR truly cared about the well-being of Muslims, it would work with us to educate the American people about the threat of radical Islam,"
said Shore. "Why is CAIR protecting radical Islam?"

The Clarion Fund was created by Raphael Shore in 2006 as a non-profit organization to educate the public about national security issues. It does this by funding documentaries and websites dealing with topical issues. The Clarion Fund is financed by individual donations and is non-partisan.
