San Diego is a city that prides itself on tolerance, diversity, and respect for all people. Yet across the country—and here in California as well—we have seen a troubling rise in antisemitic incidents targeting Jewish communities. The San Diego City Council now has an important opportunity to take a clear stand against this growing hatred by adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism through a resolution recognizing the rise of antisemitism and reaffirming the city’s commitment to combating hate and discrimination.
This resolution is a commonsense step that helps communities better identify, understand, and respond to antisemitism when it occurs. By adopting the IHRA definition—already recognized by governments, institutions, and organizations around the world—San Diego can strengthen its ability to address antisemitic harassment and ensure Jewish residents feel safe and protected in their own city.
San Diego voters should make their voices heard before the March 17 vote. Contact your City Council members today, by clicking our “Take Action Now” button on this page. and urge them to vote YES on adopting the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism. A strong response from the community will show that San Diego stands united against antisemitism and committed to protecting every resident from hate and discrimination.
