State Senator Greg Dolezal (R-GA) has introduced SB486 in the Georgia Senate to ensure that only American laws are utilized in American courts.
This bill strengthens Georgia law to ensure that no court or tribunal in our state can enforce a foreign law if it violates the rights protected by the U.S. Constitution or the Georgia Constitution. It clearly defines what “foreign law” and “tribunal” mean, while protecting legitimate international business agreements and arbitration, as long as constitutional rights are not at risk.
In the words of Sen. Dolezal, “Sharia Law has no place in the United States and it has no place in Georgia.” He's right.
The legislation also tightens the rules for sending cases to foreign courts, requiring strong proof that a person’s constitutional rights would still be protected before a Georgia court can dismiss a case in favor of another country’s legal system. Overall, this bill puts the rights of Georgians first and makes sure constitutional protections are never pushed aside in favor of foreign laws.
