Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 3, 2026
ACT for America ("ACT for America," "we," "us," or "our") operates the ACT Now mobile application (the "App") and the actforamerica.org website (collectively, the "Services"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

By using the Services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Account & Profile Information. When you register, we collect your name, email address, and, if provided, phone number and profile photo. If you sign in with Google, Facebook, or Apple, we receive your name and email address from that provider. Your account is linked to a CiviCRM contact record used to manage your membership, chapter affiliation, and activity history.

Location Information. With your permission, we collect approximate or precise device location to show you nearby chapters and local campaigns. You can disable location access at any time in your device settings; some location-based features will not function without it.

Push Notification Data. We collect a device push notification token (via Expo) to deliver alerts about campaigns, chapter announcements, and account activity. This token is tied to your account while you are logged in.

Photos. If you choose to upload a profile photo or an image for a chapter announcement, we access your camera or photo library only for that purpose, with your permission.

Civic & Advocacy Activity. We record the actions you take through the App — campaigns joined, messages sent to elected officials, petitions signed, and chapter participation — so we can show your activity history and coordinate chapter leadership functions.

Donation Information. If you make a donation, payment is processed by our third-party payment processor. We do not store your full credit card number. We retain a record of the donation amount, date, and campaign designation for your donation history and tax-receipt purposes.

Technical Information. We automatically collect limited device and usage information (such as device type, operating system version, and app version) to maintain security and diagnose issues.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account
- Show relevant campaigns, chapters, and content near you
- Send push notifications about campaigns, chapter activity, and account updates
- Process donations and maintain donation records
- Enable chapter leaders and administrators to manage members, groups, and announcements
- Maintain the security and integrity of the Services
- Comply with legal obligations

3. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information:
- With our backend service providers (including our CiviCRM constituent-management system and payment processor) solely to operate the Services
- With chapter leaders/administrators, limited to information needed to manage chapter membership and activity
- When required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of ACT for America, our members, or the public
- With your consent

4. Data Retention

We retain account and activity information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

5. Your Choices

- Access/Update: You can review and update your profile information in the App under Profile.
- Location: You can disable location permissions in your device settings.
- Notifications: You can disable push notifications in your device settings.

6. Children's Privacy

The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

7. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
