H.R. 1 is an upcoming bill, proposed by the Democrats and Nancy Pelosi, commonly referred to as the For the People Act of 2021. In reality, it's anything but "for the people".
The bill's summary proposes the following principles:
"A bill to expand Americans access to the ballot box, reduce the influence of big money in politics, strengthen ethics rules for public servants, and implement other anti-corruption measures for the purpose of fortifying our democracy, and for other purposes."
The summary doesn't sound too alarming. Access to ballot boxes. Strengthening rules of ethics for politicians. Most Americans would get behind that. But the fact that over 200 House Democrats, including Adam Schiff, Maxine Waters, Rashida Tlaib, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, to name a few, are sponsoring the bill should have you worried.
And here's why: H.R. 1 is 791 pages long and filled with unconstitutional policies that are NOT for the American people. Below are a couple of the key issues that ANY American should oppose.
- Federalization of the Election Process
The Democrats seek to remove the election process from the state level and turn it over to the federal government to dictate election outcomes. - Decide Registration for Unqualified Voters
Congress aims to undermine the states' qualifications for registered voters, as well as lift the voting ban on convicted felons. - Drawing Congressional Districts
Under H.R.1, an unelected, third party would outline the congressional districts. - Out of County Ballot Counting
Election integrity stands little change against provisions like this one that allows ballots to be counted outside of a county's precinct. - Pulling a Second Salary
This bill allows congressmen and congresswomen to pull funds from their political campaigns in addition to their regular salary they are paid from taxpayer dollars. Not to mention that those political campaigns also would be funded by taxpayer dollars. - The weaponization of the FEC
The FEC is bipartisan, having three members from the Republican party and three members from the Democratic Party. H. R. 1 changes the membership from six to three, allowing partisan control of the FEC.
We need to call our Congressmen and Congresswomen on the carpet for this crude attempt to undermine American's right to fair elections!
